Garrett Machuca

2026 Mementos Concerto Festival

Gabriel Fauré - Élégie, Op. 24

Garrett Machuca is a 15-year-old cellist who began playing the cello in first grade at the age of 7. After more than nine years of studying the instrument, he has developed a strong interest in both solo and ensemble playing and repertoire. Garrett attends Mckinney High School, where he actively participates in their varsity orchestra and enjoys being a part of a supportive musical community. He studies privately with Daniel Chilton, who has helped him build confidence, and expand his musical understanding.

Over the years Garrett has performed in school concerts, region auditions, local events, festivals as well as private recitals; gaining experience on stage and learning how to connect with an audience along the way. He enjoys working on new pieces and challenging himself with music that helps him grow as an artist.

Beyond cello and orchestral performance, Garrett is an avid baseball player who brings the same discipline and competitive drive to the field that he does to the stage. Garrett also comes from a supportive, close-knit family who have encouraged his artistic and athletic pursuits from the very beginning. Their support has been a major influence in his growth, balance, and commitment to excellence.

Garrett values the discipline and creativity that come with being a musician. He looks forward to opportunities that allow him to continue improving, especially through performing major works for the cello.
